Historical Christmas market at Rathausplatz

27. November to 23. December 2017
Daily, 11:00 to 21:00 hrs,
Fri + Sat until 22:00 hrs

The Hamburg Rathaus (town hall) is a magical backdrop for the festive market at Rathausplatz. The festively decorated stalls, which smell of mulled wine and both sweet and hearty treats, are an inviting place for a cosy stroll in front of the Hamburg Rathaus.'Art instead of commerce' is the motto of the historical Christmas market. Parents and their children enthusiastically head to the toy alley, where a model railway runs over the tops of the stalls.

Next to the toy alley there are handicrafts and wooden carvings from Tyrol and other places, as well as a food alley. You can enjoy homemade Lebkuchen gingerbread, the typical Hamburg Schmalzkuchen doughnuts, Dresden Christstollen fruitcake and many other sweet treats directly from the famous Lambertz bakery. You certainly have to try the Rathaus mulled wine, which is produced exclusively for the historical Christmas market from the finest grapes and spices. In addition to the children's carousel from the Golden Age of the 1920s, Santa Claus flies over the market on his reindeer-driven sleigh three times a day, lighting up children's eyes.

"Winter Pride" market, at Lange Reihe

27. November to 30. December 2017
daily 12:00 - 22:00,

As in the years before, the "Pink Christmas Market" opens its doors again. At the parking Kirchenalle, corner Lange Reihe, the largest gay and lesbian festive market in northern Germany takes place. Special feature this year: Instead of market stalls, food trucks welcome the visitors.

The long-established festive market at Gerhart-Hauptmann-Platz radiates nostalgic charm. Festively decorated stalls, where craftspeople demonstrate their skills, dominate the scene. Among the market's special features are a Christmas manger with life-sized figures, a nostalgic carousel, a gingerbread house, as well as a 20-metre-high Christmas tree adorned with 14,000 candles. The festive market in the Spitalerstraβe pedestrian zone lends the shopping mile a truly magical atmosphere. An old-fashioned carousel at the Mönckeberg fountain will keep the little ones busy, while the parents can savour an aromatic mulled wine under the huge Christmas pyramid.

Festive market at Jungfernstieg

The most unusual and frivolous festive market in the world takes place at Spielbudenplatz, at the heart of the district, directly on the Hamburg Reeperbahn. Seasonal and sensual gift ideas can be found here until late into the night. In additional to the classic market stalls the stage in front of Schmidt's Tivoli has a live music program as well as cabaret and comedy performances. The R18 adults only Tannenwald has a topless bar offering table dancing, strip shows and luscious angels who spoil visitors with XXX-mas cocktails.
